Community dwellers in Telemai and Sucromu communities were seen in a jubilant mood during the first harvest on the vegetable farms. The agriculture component of the Community Livelihood Assistance Project is currently implemented by the Lutheran Development Service and Funded by Bread for the World. During the event, Leelah and Kukaju Development farming groups in Telemai community harvested an initial three bags of fresh peppers from their vegetable farm and Kukaju Development Association in Sucromu also harvested over 200 fresh watermelons.
The agriculture component of the CLAP project goal is to directly impact the lives of 1,913 individuals from Four hundred (400) community households to increase production and generate income. Primarily, there are 8 farming groups made up of community dwellers from each project community. Community members organized themselves into groups and formed leadership for each group to support the project activities on Low-land Rice and Vegetable production in their respective communities.,
Celebrations were also seen in other project communities and inspiration and motivation were drawn from the all-important first vegetable harvest. Meanwhile, community members in Telemai and Sucromu communities expressed their joy and appreciation for Bread for the World and LDS. They mentioned that the project has not just benefited every household in their communities but also united the community.
