The Lutheran Development Service in Liberia currently implements a Community Livelihood Assistance Project (CLAP) funded by Bread for the Word, Germany, to improve the well-being of beneficiaries in Salayea District, Lofa County, and Bong County. The objective of the CLAP project is to promote health, water and sanitation facilities, Parent Teacher Association strengthening through school gardening, Agriculture and Livelihood activities in vegetable and rice production.

Recently, a delegation from our donor organization, Bread for the World, visited project communities in Salayea, Lofa County. The purpose of the visit was to assess the progress made over the past months, discuss way forward and deepen the collaboration between the donor and the project team.  One of the most significant aspects of the field visit was to directly engage with the community members themselves.

Moreover, the presence of the delegates instilled a sense of hope, validation, and empowerment among the beneficiaries. It reinforced the notion that their voices matter, their struggles are recognized, and their dreams are supported. This visit served as a powerful reminder that they are not alone in their journey towards a better future.

Meanwhile, during the visit, the delegates visited low land farming preparation sites in Kpaiyea and Telemai and a vegetable nursery bed in Telemai communities. They also met with the school PTA’s school garden and the Child Focus Health group leaders in Telemu.

Most importantly, these interactions provided for the delegates invaluable insights into the lived experiences, challenges faced, and aspirations of the community. Listening to their stories firsthand enabled the delegates to gain deeper understanding of the impact of their support and informed discussions on the way forward.

In the end, this visit marked a significant moment in the project’s trajectory. It exemplified the power of partnerships, celebrated achievements, and laid the groundwork for a more impactful future. By engaging directly with the community, assessing progress, and discussing the way forward, the donors and LDS project team showcased their dedication to sustainable development, and transformational change in these communities. The visit not only strengthened the collaboration between LDS and Bread for The World, but also instilled hope and empowerment among the community members; PTA, Child Focus Health, and Farming groups, reminding them that they are at the heart of this project journey of impact.
