Background
LDS is implementing the second phase of a three-year Community Livelihood Assistance Project (CLAP). One of the project components is Health and Sanitation Promotion. The project is located in Salayea District, Lofa County, where LDS operates a local office. LDS assistance to communities includes, but is not limited to, the construction of hand pump wells, construction of bath latrines, and health promotion in targeted communities. LDS seeks a qualified person to serve as position of Health and Sanitation Promotion Officer to carry out the functions detailed below.
Major Responsibilities:
The Health and Sanitation Promotion Officer will ensure effective planning and implementation of the Health and Sanitation Promotion component of CLAP II in Salayea District, Lofa County.
Specific Roles & Responsibilities
- Support the CLAP team to successfully implement the Health and Sanitation Promotion activities;
- Work with communities to identify ideal sites for hand pump wells and bath latrines construction, taking into consideration safety and health risks;
- Collect health data from selected health posts/clinic in Salayea District to inform the impact of CLAP II health and sanitation promotion activities;
- Take an inventory of clinics and other health facilities in the district,
- Contribute to development and submission of the CLAP team monthly report;
Technical Support
- Ensure that health and sanitation promotion contractors and service providers awarded contracts perform according to the terms of their contracts, such as depth and width of wells, size and quality of aprons built around wells, solid culverts, and quality of hand pumps;
Project Management
- Work closely and cooperatively with CLAP Team and Project Manager to ensure the successful implementation of the health and sanitation component of the project;
- Identify key issues in the field activities and recommend solutions to the manager;
- Plan, execute, and update the monthly work plan;
- Contribute to team monthly reports
Administration and Coordination:
- May be designated to attend district coordination meetings and provide feedback to the team
- Work with the county and district health teams on project implementation issues;
Qualification and Required Skills and Expertise
- University Degree in social and/or applied sciences
- Minimum 3 years of working experience on donors’ projects in rural areas;
- Some experience in community development programming;
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written English;
- Strong preference for female candidates with motorbike riding skills;
- Willing work in the project geographic areas;
- Can work independently but is also a strong team player;
