Purpose / Description
To manage vendor or open-source database software. Monitor, evaluate the integrity of data and placement of data files for the coordination of LEC’s data requirements. Code, monitor and tune database objects for optimal performance. Provide support for the design, development and implementation of application development projects. Provide day-to-day database administration support as needed, keeping an eye on trends and considering future direction. Apply updates and fixes to various database services which may include, but are not limited to Oracle, Microsoft SQL and MySQL. Migrate data and code from one environment to another. Manage database level user and group security settings and ensure secure operations of database servers. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with the database at the server level.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Install database software on servers as needed. Install, monitor for, download and apply upgrades, updates and fixes database software on servers as needed. Monitor databases for performance and issues using monitoring tools.
- Provide technical assistance to corporate functional areas and other teams on problems that may be database related.
- Administer database-level security as needed. Address database or performance issues that are forwarded from user departments. Respond to end-user with information related to any issues as well as updating status during ongoing issues. Provide technical advice on database and application software interface issues.
- Configure backup processes. Restore data when needed. Design, implement and integrate database and database systems as needed.
- Optimize and secure data related services that are integrated with the database systems managed. Modify entity relationship diagrams as needed.
- Propose and/or establish new procedures and policies as needed. Adhere to published standards and procedures, such as naming conventions, security, programming conventions, code walkthroughs, testing conventions and migration processes
- Design, develop and maintain database solutions for new projects and product upgrades, ETL solutions for data interfaces.
- Maintain installation documentation. Maintain documentation on any modifications to default installation of various databases. Update operations and user documentation as needed.
- Script or create simple programs to automate daily operational tasks. Writes appropriate SQL scripts to extract data efficiently and in a timely manner.
- Improve Database administration team internal standards and processes to promote increased quality, performance and customer service.
- Support, troubleshoot and resolve database and data related issues.
- Generate/validate system performance statistics for reporting to management. Prepare regular status reports for supervisor and manager.
- Work with system engineers and developers to ensure 24×7 production architecture availability and recoverability.
- Provide before, after hours and weekend support for migrations, updates, fixes and issues as needed.
- Perform such other duties as may be required from time to time for the overall management and operation of the LEC.
Qualification
Educational Requirement
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems or Computer Science or related field.
- At least three (3) years of relevant professional experience.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
The job is to be performed indoor and outdoor. Regular use of phone and email for communication is essential. Hearing and vision correctable to within normal ranges are essential for normal conversations, receiving ordinary information, and preparing or inspecting documents.
The ability to remain in a stationary position roughly 50% of the time, as well as the ability to move about the office occasionally (accessing files/storage, office equipment, computers and other office productivity devices, attending meetings, etc.), is required. Extended periods of sitting while using a computer or other devices are common. Must also be able to position self to maintain equipment and cablings, including under tables, desks and overhead.
Some moderately heavy lifting (of computer, racks, switches, printers, etc.) may be required. Good manual dexterity required to use common office equipment (e.g., computers, mobile devices, calculators, copiers, scanners).
