The Lutheran Development Service (LDS), as part of its ongoing commitment to improving livelihoods through sustainable agriculture, is implementing the LTI-LWF Project on the Lutheran Training Institute (LTI) compound in Salayea District. One of the key components of this project is poultry farming, and it recently marked a significant milestone with the arrival of its first batch of 250 cockerels. This initiative is designed to provide hands-on training in poultry management to students and community members, while also generating income and enhancing food security within the institution and surrounding areas.
The introduction of the cockerels signifies a practical step toward empowering young people and local farmers with skills in animal husbandry. Through this project, LDS aims to promote self-reliance, improve protein intake, and create economic opportunities. Participants will gain experience in proper feeding, disease control, and poultry housing, which they can replicate in their own communities. The LTI-LWF project not only contributes to agricultural education but also supports LDS’s broader mission of holistic rural development by linking training with real-life income-generating activities.
