Jarwuta Public School in Bong County emerged as a focal point for educational transformation through the Community Livelihood Assistance Project (CLAP), following an eye-opening donor visit at the inception of the project.
At the time, the school faced dwindling enrollment, insufficient teaching staff, and a general lack of community engagement in education. Many students had dropped out due to poor learning conditions and the absence of consistent instruction. Recognizing this pressing need, CLAP identified Jarwuta as the starting point for its education component, aiming to strengthen the learning environment, improve governance, and restore public confidence in formal schooling.
The intervention by CLAP was multi-faceted. The project supported the reactivation and strengthening of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), provided stipends for volunteer teachers to close staffing gaps, and supplied essential teaching and learning materials. These targeted actions created immediate results, not only in the classroom but also in the broader community. With the presence of motivated teachers and functional school governance, Jarwuta Public School quickly regained its reputation as a place where children could receive quality education.
The school grounds were revitalized, teacher commitment increased, and parents began to see value in enrolling their children again.
As a result of these strategic interventions, the school recorded an impressive increase of 50 students in enrollment for the 2024/2025 school year. This growth is a testament to the impact of community-centered education programming and the importance of early investment in under-resourced schools. Jarwuta’s story has become a model within Bong County, inspiring neighboring communities to advocate for similar support under CLAP.
The success at Jarwuta is not only about numbers, it reflects restored hope, empowered parents, and children once again sitting in classrooms with a chance to dream and achieve. It also solidified the role of education as a pillar of sustainable development within the broader scope of the CLAP initiative.
